Katherine Sumner, co-founder of Nourish Schools, LLC and founder of Pure and Simple Health, LLC, is a certified holistic health counselor with a focus on nutrition support for the whole family and the whole school.

Katherine began working with individual clients to empower them to make appropriate food choices for themselves as well as their families.  While working with parents, Katherine realized the need to also educate schools on the importance of nutrition.

She began speaking at several schools and parent groups in the DC metro area including Sidwell Friends School, Holistic Moms Group, Franklin Montessori, and Beauvoir.  She was hired by the Meeting House Cooperative Preschool in Alexandria, VA to be their nutritional consultant.

Katherine is currently working as a nutritionist with the Steinmetz Medical Practice and she is also involved in the garden program with the Alexandria City Public Schools trying to develop more of a “farm-to-school” approach.

Katherine also shares her passion for healthy living through Nourish Schools group classes for both parents and children as well as through her individual counseling.

Nourish Schools has recently been asked to be a part of the On Parenting Blog at the Washington Post with a focus on family nutrition.

After working in the pharmaceutical industry for several years and having her first child, Katherine became more passionate about the ways in which our body can heal itself if given what it needs.  Fascinated by holistic health and the life-changing benefits of eating whole foods, Katherine delved into the world of holistic wellness.  Her research led her to a program at New York’s Institute for Integrative Nutrition, then affiliated with Columbia University, where she received a dual certification in holistic health counseling and nutrition.  She has also achieved a “Food As Medicine” certificate from the Center for Mind-Body Medicine and is currently completing a certification in herbal studies as well as a Certificate in Nutritional Consulting from Tulsi Holistic living.

Katherine believes in empowering our children with the tools they need to live happier, healthier, and better lives.

Katherine holds a BBA from Emory University.
